Today isn't going the way that I wanted it to.

Oh well. Last weekend I told Mike that we'd go out this weekend and do something, so we're going to get together Saturday... my friend Claire is going to someplace called the Royal, so I'm going to meet her out there.

More later, I have stuff to get back to.

phobias quiz... oh well.

Not that great........ oh well!

Phobias Quiz: How Much Do You Know About Fear?
Not bad.
You know about as much as the average fraidy-cat about phobias. You got 5/10 correct.
1
Incorrect
The correct answer: A Trees
Your answer: B Dentists or dental work

A dendrophobe has an intense and overpowering fear of trees. The prefix dendro "tree or treelike" originates with the Greek dendron "to be solid." This one is a toughie because dendrite, a treelike component of all nerve cells, shares the same prefix. And fear of dentists or dental work, technically known as dentophobia, is one of the most common phobias reported.
2
Correct!
The correct answer: B Fear of flying
Your answer: B Fear of flying

Also called aerophobia, aviophobia describes an irrational fear of flying. Many aviophobics learn to control their fear with a behavior therapy known as systematic desensitization, which teaches them to relax in a situation that would normally produce anxiety. For the record, fear of birds is technically termed ornithophobia; fear of reptiles is herpetophobia.
3
Correct!
The correct answer: C Thunder and lightning
Your answer: C Thunder and lightning

Brontophobes have an irrational fear of thunder and lightning. If you guessed dinosaurs or dinosaur bones, worry not--you weren't too far off. The prefix bronto, from the Greek bronte "thunder," also appears in one of the most recognizable dinosaur names, brontosaurus*.
4
Correct!
The correct answer: A Foreigners
Your answer: A Foreigners

From the Greek xenos "stranger, foreigner," xenophobia describes an irrational fear of foreign people and cultures. A xenophile, on the other hand, adores foreign people, their customs, and their culture. And just to be fair, the word xenon, which describes a gas used in glow-in-the-dark neon signs, shares the same Greek origin.
5
Incorrect
The correct answer: B Peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth
Your answer: A Spiders, scorpions, or mites

What can we say? Phobias are by nature irrational. The name of this one is quite rational, however. The botanists and nut buffs among us will likely recognize the prefix arachi, which also appears in the scientific name for peanut*, Arachis hypogaea.
6
Correct!
The correct answer: B Ophidiophobia
Your answer: B Ophidiophobia

Truth? We have some trouble regarding any fear of snakes as irrational. Nonetheless, the professionals think there's such a thing, and they call it ophidiophobia, from the Greek stem ophid "snake."
7
Correct!
The correct answer: B Public or open spaces
Your answer: B Public or open spaces

Agoraphobia is characterized by an intense and irrational fear of being in places or situations from which escape might be difficult. The name is derived from the word agora*, a public square or marketplace considered an integral component of any ancient Greek city.
8
Incorrect
The correct answer: A The number 13
Your answer: C Triplets

Blame this one on the Greeks, too. Coined from the Greek word triskaideka "thirteen," triskaidekaphobia describes an irrational fear of the number 13. Not all fear of the number 13 is considered phobia, however. In some cases, it's just superstition.
9
Incorrect
The correct answer: A Gephyrophobia
Your answer: C Ichthyophobia

A person with gephyrophobia, sometimes called gephydrophobia, has an overpowering fear of crossing bridges. In many cases, the fear extends beyond bridges to other human-made structures, such as tall buildings.
10
Incorrect
The correct answer: C Long words
Your answer: A Food dishes containing cod fish

Whew! If you've made it this far in the phobias quiz, we can say with some assurance that you do not suffer from sesquipedalophobia. This one, by the way, owes its name to Latin. The prefix sesqui "one and a half" originates with the Latin words semi "half" and que "and."

NO time for a long post today... okay, no time for any post today, really.

I have a funny story about a weird phone call that I got while I was covering the phones today... I have no patience for stupid people, I swear... I almost hung up on this guy, but I was a good girl.

Heather and Tim said that they liked my chili, so all is good at the abode!

Didn't get a chance to watch Birth of a Nation... I'm planning on starting it tonight... I'm going to run home after work, watch an hour & 15 minutes or so and then get to my psych class at 7. I asked Tiff if she wanted to get together tomorrow, so I might not have much time to watch the film tomorrow... Lost is on at 8, too... can't miss that! Although I think it might be a repeat... I'll have to check on that. Back to work for me....

I'm busy at work today, so I don't have much time to compose a well-thought-out post, but just wanted to let everyone know that I'm in my new place... thanks to everyone for their good wishes and support (emotional, physical or financial!) in the past few weeks...... I'm very sore and tired, but it was all worth it! I'm getting along extremely well with Heather and Tim... I feel like I've been living there for more like a year instead of just a few days.

The mattress was miraculously delivered on Saturday, and my new dresser was carried up the stairs by my roomies... I still have a lot of unpacking to do, I imagine it will take me a while.... Over the weekend I purchased new stuff for the bathroom.....it's all very RED. I love it! I also got a nice dark plaid down comforter (Calvin Klein!) from Marshall's... it was a steal! Oh, and I got 360 thread count sheets..... they feel soooooo good. :-)

Tonight I'm going to start watching Birth of a Nation....... Made in 1915, 179 minutes or something like that..... no sound, black and white. I just can't wait. (can you hear the sarcasm???) ugh. I think that we're going to make chili tonight..... we got all the fixings for it over the weekend, but I was lazy and didn't make it.

Well I have to finish up for today............... hopefully I'll be able to do a longer post tomorrow!

Supposedly my mattress is being delivered between 3 and 6 pm tomorrow......... I'll believe it when I see it. Those bastards better bring it! I asked if they could have just moved up the time to earlier in the day, and Emad assured me that they would get it to me. He said that they were trying to cancel as many deliveries as possible and were rescheduling them for next week, but he made *sure* that mine would be delivered. It better be. Grr.

Oh, but I found a really nice dresser at Goodwill! It was actually made of solid wood & it's enormous!!! SO that should be a lot of fun getting up the stairs & in my room. Eh... oh well! I'll get it in there somehow. :-P~

My roommates are actually having a party tomorrow... how funny is that? Should be a good time, though... this way I can meet all of their friends & get settled in. Tonight I'm going to Marshall's to get my linens and crap. Woo-hoo! They had some really nice sheet sets & they had some calvin klein down-filled comforters that were a really great deal. They were a navy blue checked type color... I'd rather do without the checks, but it's a nice pattern as far as patterns go. :)

So here I go.... moving in the freaking snow. I have the greatest timing in all areas of my life, don't I? haha!!! Oh well... it could be worse, I suppose.

Here's today's horoscope:

You have been working hard over the last three weeks to find a refuge, LAUREN. Now that you have found people you can trust, you can feel at peace with yourself. You can confide your joys and disappointments to others. But, you should open up your heart and you will see that you have more than just one safe-haven.

Topic: School
That my Western Civ class was cancelled due to low enrollment, so after much deliberation I've decided to take Professor P's American Films class... I had to actually go up to the school yesterday at lunch to register, because the online registration thing was acting wacky. So I'll be taking classes from the same teachers that I had last semester... haha! They can be my source of stability since my life has been turned upside down for the last few weeks :) Actually, I'm feeling pretty stable... I'm moving in to my new place this weekend... I'm still really happy about my roommate... I feel like I've known her for years! :) Of course it just had to snow this weekend since I'm moving.... oh well. I'm taking some stuff over tonight... things that never made it out of my trunk, hehe.

Oh, but back to school... here's the email I got back from Professor P:

Well then my prayers have been answered! I still don't have access to the list of enrolled students or surely I would have emailed you to say: "Yahoo!!"

Morning Professor P!

Just wanted to warn you that I signed up for your American Films class ;-) My Western Civ class got cancelled due to low enrollment, so I'll see you tomorrow night!

Lauren

I'm teacher's pet... so sue me! haha... this should be a cool class because Professor P loves movies (maybe that's why she's teaching this one?) and I'd love to get her insight. So all we do pretty much is watch movies for the entire semester. Sounds easy enough to get another A! We'll probably have to do movie reviews or something, but I think that'll be a lot of fun for me... that's the kind of stuff that I love to write. Yay.

Hmm... what else. Oh! Last night I met Tiff out for dinner at Red Brick Station... had a lot of fun, went to Tar-jay afterwards, bought some towels. I'm holding off on the more major bathroom purchases because Heather (my roomie) wants to come & we'll pick stuff out together. I'm going to Marshall's today at lunch to see what they have... Dyanna was saying that she buys her sheets there, so I'm going to take a look.

I'm really disappointed that I haven't gotten any drunken phone calls from New Orleans, but oh well. Drunken phone calls are the best! :) Voicemails are even better, because then there's evidence, lol.

Well I'm really overwhelmed with work right now, so I'd better get some of it done. I have to email my aunt terri, too.. I've been meaning to but keep forgetting.

........ that I really need to get to Boston? My friend Sue is in a cover band called Velvet Jones and I want to see them. :) Over the weekend we were all discussing places that we want to go & I kept saying how much I want to go back to Boston... so I think that I'll probably make it up there in the next month or two... hopefully. So I'm hoping that I can get a little group together so that we can share the room costs... we could probably spend a weekend up there for about $200 a person... not bad... actually less than that if we stay outside the city, but I'll have to see how far the T runs out. Hmm. Sounds like an adventure!!

Go to Untouchable Films' website - www.ufilms.comand download the teaser for the film I did last summer... yeah, we look nothing like high school kids, do we? haha... oh well. There's also a clip from the oven incident... some funny shit. I can't wait until the whole thing is done... originally I was thinking that it would be finished pretty quickly after we shot it, but here we are 6+ months later. :-P~ oh well! I hope that they do something else next semester... I want to do another film... it was so much fun! I really need to get a headshot done. Of course it would help if I could decide on a haircolor for more than a month. :-P~
